Waterside Academy - A Curriculum Designed for Tomorrow's World
Waterside Academy is committed to providing an engaging and enriching curriculum that prepares our students for the challenges and opportunities of the future. Our curriculum is carefully designed to ensure that our children leave us with the essential knowledge, skills, and cultural capital they need to thrive in the next phase of their educational journey.
Knowledge and Skills
At the heart of our curriculum are two key principles: knowledge and skills. We believe by helping our students to know more, remember more, and do more over time, we can support them in making excellent progress.
Our curriculum is planned to build upon prior learning, introducing new knowledge and skills in a logical, sequential manner. We work tirelessly to ensure that our young learners develop a deep understanding of the world around them, both locally and globally. Whether our students go on to pursue academic, vocational, or creative paths, we are confident that the knowledge and skills they gain at Waterside will provide a strong foundation for their future success.
Values-Based Learning
Alongside our focus on knowledge and skills, Waterside Academy is deeply committed to promoting British values and the rights of the child. Our curriculum has these values embedded throughout, and we regularly review our teaching to ensure that they are well represented.
As a 'Rights Respecting' school, we actively teach our students about their rights as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. By empowering our learners to understand and advocate for their own rights, as well as the rights of others, we are nurturing a culture of respect, kindness, and consideration within our school community.
Enriching Experiences
In addition to our core curriculum, we place a strong emphasis on providing our students with enriching experiences that enhance their cultural capital. From educational day trips to visiting speakers, we strive to offer a wide range of opportunities that broaden our learners' horizons and deepen their understanding of the world.
By combining a knowledge-rich, skills-focused curriculum with a values-based approach and enriching experiences, we are confident that Waterside Academy is preparing our students for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow's world. We invite you to explore our curriculum further and see how we are bringing our vision and values to life.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
In the EYFS at Waterside, we strive to create a nurturing and engaging environment that supports the holistic development of our youngest learners. By aligning our teaching with the EYFS Statutory Framework, we ensure that our students are given the best possible start to their educational journey.
Our EYFS curriculum is structured to foster the growth of the whole child, focusing on the key areas of:
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Through a blend of adult-led and child-initiated activities, we encourage our EYFS students to explore, experiment, and learn at their own pace, all while upholding our school's core values of respect, kindness, responsibility, consideration, and endeavour.
