How We Teach Art at Waterside Academy
At Waterside Academy, we believe every child has the potential to be an artist. Our art curriculum is designed to nurture creativity, build confidence, and inspire a lifelong appreciation for art. Through hands-on activities and exposure to diverse artistic styles, children develop both their skills and their imagination.
Art lessons at Waterside Academy go far beyond drawing and painting. From their very first day, children are encouraged to experiment with different materials, techniques, and tools, whether they are creating expressive paintings, detailed drawings, or three-dimensional sculptures. This practical learning is complemented by lessons on art history and appreciation, where pupils learn about famous artists, their works, and the stories behind them.
We also focus on teaching children to think like artists. Pupils use sketchbooks to explore their ideas, plan their creations, and reflect on their progress. These sketchbooks are not only a record of their artistic journey but also a way for them to experiment and refine their skills.
Our approach to teaching art helps children develop more than technical abilities. They learn to express themselves, interpret the world around them, and think critically about their own work and the work of others. This holistic approach encourages individuality and creativity, allowing each child to find their unique artistic voice.
By the time children leave Waterside Academy, they have experienced a wide range of artistic styles and techniques. They are not only confident in their creative abilities but also have a deep appreciation for art in its many forms. We are proud to help every child discover the joy and value of creativity.
