How We Teach Physical Education at Waterside Academy
At Waterside Academy, we recognise the vital role Physical Education (PE) plays in fostering healthy, active lifestyles and building essential skills for life. Our PE programme is designed to develop children’s physical abilities, confidence, and a lifelong love for sport and physical activity.
Our PE lessons are rooted in the National Curriculum objectives to ensure all pupils:
- Develop competence in a wide range of physical activities.
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time.
- Engage in competitive sports and activities.
- Lead healthy, active lives.
Lessons are designed to encourage children to challenge themselves and compete both individually and in teams, all while developing their physical, social, emotional, and thinking skills. These core skills form the foundation of our planning and delivery of PE.
To support our aims, we use the Get Set 4 PE programme, which provides a structured approach to skill development and ensures progression across all year groups. Each lesson is carefully planned to cater to children of all abilities, with teachers adapting and scaffolding activities to ensure every child can participate, learn, and achieve at their own level.
