How We Teach Reading at Waterside Academy
At Waterside Academy, we deliver a history curriculum designed to inspire curiosity and deepen understanding of the past. Using the Kapow Primary History Programme, pupils progressively build knowledge and skills, from exploring foundational concepts such as time and change in Early Years to studying complex societal developments in later years.
Our lessons are interactive and engaging, incorporating artefacts, timelines, and storytelling to bring history to life. Pupils develop chronological awareness, analyse causes and consequences, and compare similarities and differences across periods. Historical enquiry is central, with children asking questions, evaluating evidence, and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
We celebrate diversity by exploring the contributions of various cultures and untold stories, broadening pupils’ perspectives and fostering empathy. By the time they leave, pupils are equipped with historical understanding, critical thinking skills, and a global perspective, preparing them to engage thoughtfully with the world.
